The Arkansas Electrical Convention will be a full day conference and tradeshow specifically tailored for the electrical industry. There will be accredited continuing education courses, featured speakers, a large tradeshow with plenty of opportunity for networking, a banquet style luncheon, and a cocktail function to conclude the day. The planning committee is comprised of representatives from both the IES Little Rock chapter as well as the Electrical League of Arkansas. We have been working hard to plan a successful event that will benefit specifiers, facility managers, contractors, distributors, utility representatives, and manufacturing representatives.

Implementing OIS, a Campus Electrical Loop and a 10MW Generator Plant at UALR
- Ian Hadden Robin Sipes
- Riverside West
UALR will share the story of the electrical side of their recent energy conservation projects. In 2013 UA Little Rock began a $30M energy conservation project in support of long term campus commitments under Act 1494. This phase of the project included consolidating 3 primary meters into a single OIS account, construction of a 10 MW generating facility and connecting and consolidating the campus electrical loop to improve redundancy and reduce operating costs. Projects of this size frequently run into hurdles and this was no different, we'll share the challenges such at Tier 4i emissions and contract language as well as the successes.
2020 National Electric Code Update
- Chad Kennedy
- Riverside East
Update to NEC as a result of the 2020 Edition of the NFPA70
Trade Show Opens
- Grand Ballroom
The trade show will be open continuously from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm for those who are only attending the trade show portion of the event.
Wireless Lighting Controls
- CJ Billera
- Riverside West
Wireless Technologies for Lighting Control looks at the value of wireless and how to make smart decisions when choosing between technologies. The benefits of wireless lighting controls have led to a dramatic increase in the number of systems available over the last few years. Not all are created equally. To ensure the success of a wireless control system, it is critical to evaluate wireless control options on their flexibility, reconfigurability, interoperability, reliability, and security. Attendees will learn how to evaluate wireless control options based on these criteria.
Applying Panelboards to Solar Arrays

Research on the effects of various color wave lengths have been published to prove how colored light can impact both our physical and psychological well-being. Discuss how colored lighting in architecture can serve as both decorative aesthetics and improved occupant health.

Open Space Electrical & Digital Infrastructure
- Sara Schmidt
- Riverside East
The commercial space design trend toward open plans has had a major impact on interior electrical and digital infrastructure. Offices, hotels, retail spaces, and transit areas all utilize open spaces, each with their own specific issues and requirements. This course provides designers with the information required to provide code-compliant, userfriendly, and convenient power, data/communication, and AV access for a wide variety of open spaces and end users, including facility managers, cleaning staff, and visitors.
New Developments in Arc Flash Mitigation of Low Voltage System Overcurrent Protective Devices
- Jude Hernandez
- Riverside West
New technologies available in High Pressure Contact (HPC) fused switches greatly increase bus protection. Using the new generation HPC switch allows the user to set even large-amperage switches low enough to respond to respond to arcing faults at a trip speed associated with the instantaneous response of a low voltage circuit breaker trip unit, minimizing arc flash energy. This session will describe the new generation HPC switch design from ABB ELIS, and how it is applied to new low voltage systems and typical retrofit applications.
